Hello, I'm Katie ^^ and I will be studying abroad as an exchange student at Ritsumeikan university in Japan. There were quite a few things I wanted to know about the university and people's experience there before deciding where I wanted to go and I would have liked to know more about Kyoto and the university which is why I'm writing a blog to let people know about my own experiences so far in Japan. I'm not sure where to start but the main application for Ritsumeikan Uni is quite simple because you will probably apply in March time and all of it is online. However, one thing Ritsumeikan doesn't tell you is that your placement test is NOT in September unlike most universities. It's all online and mine was from August 1st-24th, they didn't tell me this until a week before August, I would have appreciated it if they told me earlier (because I had an internship this summer and was on holiday from the end of July-August. My COE arrived in late July and it takes 4 day to process your visa btw if you have a COE, it's quite simple to fill in the form for your visa, it was just a hassle getting down to London since I live in the North. LOL
For those that may want to bring prescription medicine with a supply of more than a month, you must apply for a yakkan shoumei -> https://www.mhlw.go.jp/english/policy/health-medical/pharmaceuticals/dl/qa1.pdf
Then you can send it to yakkan@mhlw.go.jp , on the website it may tell you to post it but when I called in to ask about something regarding my medications, they replied and told me that emailing it is better because it's quicker for them to process it and send it back. BTW you have to have bought your ticket to Japan before you submit this. If you have asthma or use inhalers then you might need a yakkan shoumei. :')
I study at the University of Manchester and if you are from UoM, then read carefully because UoM almost screwed me over so bad. It's worse when you are a joint honors student and both schools are different because I study Business and Japanese. This means there's the business school and the language school, technically I'm in the language school but the staff literally hate you when you're joint honors and tell you to go to the other school which is really really annoying. fml
When you receive your results and one module says 0% despite having attended the exam. Then email your school and ask them not once, but thrice because when I emailed salc to check what I actually got(not 0%), they DID NOT check properly. So make sure they actually check properly or they'll tell you BS like resit the exam and pay the fee for an exam you possibly passed (which happened to me) 🙄🙄🙄This would be really bad if your university starts early, early as the dates for the resit period because they could possibly cancel your year abroad since you can't be there at the scheduled time they want, but please double check with your university in Japan and whoever is in charge of your residence abroad if you are worried about failing and having to resit, because for Ritsumeikan, even if I had to resit I would still be able to go abroad because I have to be there from 3-5 September and the resit period finishes on August 31st.
