End of 1st semester update

It's been a while since I have updated this blog and time passed so quickly since the first half of the semester! After the mid-term exams I got really busy and didn't have much time to update my blog. All in all, I had a really rough start in Japan for the first 2 months but after that things started to look up. I really enjoyed my 1st semester here and made a lot of great friends. I have to say that I had the best class this semester and best teacher 上田先生本当に本当にありがとうございました。It's a shame Ueda sensei is not going to be teaching at Ritsumeikan university anymore, he was a brilliant teacher and absolutely hilarious too! Our class was so wholesome and our 雰囲気was great too as Ueda- sensei said hehehe.

Another thing is that I moved out from the dorm and into my own place. It was a really stressful time and Ritsumeikan is really a bitch for being so vague and making it sound like you can't move out of the dorm but in reality you can!!! On the application sheet it does say you can't change or cancel once your dorm is decided but that's BS! I emailed the international centre in October to confirm and they told me I can't move dorms but I can move out into my own place. So, if you want to do that, yes it is possible. The only thing I really wished for was that the Utano dorm was in a better place because the most important thing for me is living in a convenient place. If only Utano was placed in a better area, it would have been perfect. At first, it was true that I didn't enjoy my time there but as time passed and I stopped wallowing in my own misery I was able to see what I had in front of me and talk to everyone in my dorm more (lol maybe no everyone) and realise that it was fun living with everyone there. I moved out in January since the apartment I found was vacant from January. Ideally I wanted to stay until the next semester but since not many landlords are willing to lease to someone staying under 1 year, it was hard to find other places. I was lucky and able to find a place of my own near Kitano tenmangu which is much more convenient and closer to uni. It's a 15 min walk to uni, 5 min walk to conbini and a supermarket. There are more buses and it takes 15 mins to walk to the closest JR station. The only regrets I had was leaving behind some friends at the dorm that I was able to get closer to during the last 2 months, but I felt that for the sake of my lifestyle it would be for the best.
