I went to Sendai in Miyagi (Tohoku region in the North of Japan) for 3 days and stayed at my friend's place with her family. It was a fairly short trip but it was fine because Sendai isn't super big. I went in late February from 22nd-24th and flew from KIX to Sendai airport.
I only went around the city, taking the tour bus loop which included: where there used to be a castle but not there's only a statue of a famous samurai left, international centre where there was a board of a famous figure skater Hanyu Yuzuru and Arakawa Shizuka, Kannou sama(?) the giant statue that stands as tall as 100m.
All in all it was a wonderful trip. I think what made the whole trip so enjoyable was that my friend invited me to stay at her house and it was almost like a homestay experience and her family was so lovely. Any advice I'd give to someone is that if you have a Japanese who invites you to stay at their house you should take it because it is such a wonderful experience! :) This is my second time staying at a Japanese friend's house.
A piece of advice is, if you stay at a Japanese friend's house it would be good to bring an omiyage for them ^^ I live in Kyoto so I brought its local specialty Yatsuhashi.
Sendai's local specialty:
Zunda (edamame milk shake, mochi etc.)
Kamaboko (fish cake)
